Spray painted furniture

It’s great to have options when dinner time comes around and no better way than to flick through a recipe book or two. However, after years of Christmas presents and foreign holidays, we had amassed a fine collection of cookbooks in our house. The kitchen shelves were getting too small and we didn’t have enough floor space for a multi tier bookcase.

I thought if I could source a chunky, old bedside locker, it should do the trick. Before I knew it, I was back down to The Marina and hunting for another bargain. What I had in my mind’s eye and what was available were worlds apart .

I eventually had to settle for a single door locker, with a broken wooden top, a missing shelf and woodworm riddled legs, it was a steal at €25 !

The top and back of the locker had to be thrown out they were in such poor condition and the door was completely warped too.

The locker needed to be reinforced to accommodate the new middle shelf. It also needed support for a new top  and a base for the unit.

The end product was finished in Fire Engine Red and takes pride of place in our kitchen. It’s the perfect colour too for festive decorating. It was easily filled with a stack or recipe books. I just hope we don’t get too many cookery presents again this year !
