Happy New Year 2020 to all my customers old and new. I would hope that everyone had a wonderful break and are somewhat relieved to get back to some kind of a routine again. To get the year off to a fresh start, I needed to revisit an old, recurring problem, my office area.
This is a project that has been on the long finger for far too long. It’s a spare room with two windows and a rad to contend with, so placement of furniture and orientation of a spare bed and is very difficult for access and movement. After a lot of measuring, I had to give up on a static bed and opt for a sofa bed ( mustard yellow, why not ? ) to allow for regular work use and only very occasional spare bed requirements.
The dreaded Magnolia paintwork on the walls was replaced by a calm, light grey. The brief for the room was to have a strong feature wall and the chosen strong, floral pattern gave that in spades. Bay windows were finished in crisp white, giving a clean frame for the pop of accent colour of the indigo blue roller blinds.
Some floating shelves, contoured ceiling shade, with multi-level, zoned lighting for functionality and comfort, filled in some of the blanks for this new space.
There are some nice views from this room and therefore opted for an adjustable desk from Ikea. With a touch of a button, the telescopic legs bring the table up to standing height, allowing work to continue with a stretch of the legs and a quick glimpse of the view.
The kids still use this room for some computer time along with occasional sleepovers for friends, so a slim console table works well for a desk and PC stand .
All in all, it’s an inviting new room and a great workspace to be in for 2020 and years to come. I only wish I had sorted it out sooner, hindsight is 20/20 vision I suppose !
